Old Baldy CWRT To Host Robertson Aug. 17
PHILADELPHIA, Pa.
Old Baldy Civil War Round Table will celebrate
its 25th anniversary on Aug. 17. The featured guest speaker
will be Civil War historian and author Dr. James I. Robertson
Jr.
The round table, which meets monthly at the Civil War Library
and Museum, has grown over the years into one of the best-known
round tables in the country. The group has raised thousands
of dollars for historic preservation with such activities as
dinners, raffles and tours. Proceeds from the anniversary dinner
will benefit various historic preservation projects.
Robertson, distinguished C.P. Miles Professor of History at
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg,
Va., has written numerous articles and books on the Civil War
and conducted countless battlefield and historic site tours.
He also appeared on many documentaries on the History Channel
and A&E.
His most recent work is the definitive biography of Gen. Stonewall
Jackson that was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. His topic for
the evening will be Why Men Enlisted in the Civil War.
Hundreds of dollars in door prizes will be awarded to those
attending and a raffle for three valuable prizes will be drawn
that evening.
The dinner at the Radisson Hotel in Trevose, Pa., begins at
7 p.m. (cash bar at 6 p.m.). The dinner and program is open
