USCT Weekend To Be April 9-11 In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Second Annual Philadelphia United States Colored Troops Civil War Weekend will be held April 9-11. Activities will be centered at Historic Fort Mifflin with events and related exhibits throughout the city.

The 3rd Regiment USCT, Old Fort Mifflin Historical Society and Fort Mifflin on the Delaware are hosting the weekend.

Through plays, music, demonstrations, interactive programs, videos, films, lectures and first-person impressions the stories of the African American struggles to serve, for citizenship, for equal pay, for good equipment and freedom during the war will be told.

Members of the Camp William Penn brigade, reenactment groups that portray troops trained at Camp William Penn, attending include Joseph Lee’s 3rd Regiment USCT of Philadelphia, Fred Minus’ 6th Regiment USCT of Trenton, N.J., Rashid Khan’s 22nd Regiment USCT of Asbury Park, N.J., Pvt. Vaughan from the 54th Massachusetts and Sgt. Westley Wilson of the 38th Regiment USCT of Gloucester, Va.

The Ladies of FREED (Female Re-Enactors of Distinction) from Washington, D.C., and the Voices of Freedom from Gloucester, Va., will perform.
